Terms of Service
Last updated: June 2026These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern the provision of McKenzie Friend support services by Affordable Legal ("we", "us", "our") to you ("the client"). By engaging our services, you agree to these Terms.
1. Nature of the Service
Affordable Legal provides McKenzie Friend support, not legal representation. We are not a firm of solicitors, we are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), and nothing we provide constitutes regulated legal advice. Our role is to assist, prepare, and support you as a Litigant in Person.
2. What Is and Is Not Included
Our services may include case strategy, document drafting and review, evidence organisation, hearing preparation, and attendance alongside you at hearings. The following are expressly not included:
- We do not have an automatic Right of Audience and will not address the court or cross-examine witnesses on your behalf unless the court grants specific permission;
- We do not conduct litigation on your behalf;
- We do not sign court documents for you — you remain responsible for signing and filing all documents as a Litigant in Person.
3. Payment Terms
Fees for fixed packages and hourly support are as published or as agreed in writing before work begins. Payment is required in advance, before services are rendered. Hourly support is billed in 15-minute increments.
4. Cancellation and Rescheduling
If you need to cancel or reschedule a booked session or hearing attendance, we ask for at least 48 hours' notice. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice may not be refundable, as time and preparation will already have been committed.
5. Limitation of Liability
Our services are provided in good faith and with reasonable care and skill. However, the conduct and outcome of any legal proceedings depend on many factors outside our control. Affordable Legal is not liable for the outcome of your case, for decisions of the court, or for any loss arising from your decisions or from information you provide that is inaccurate or incomplete. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
6. Confidentiality
Both parties agree to keep confidential the information shared in the course of the engagement. We will not disclose your case details to third parties except where required by law. You likewise agree to keep our advice and materials confidential to your matter.
7. Your Responsibilities
You remain responsible for your own case at all times: for meeting court deadlines, for the accuracy of the information you provide, and for all final decisions. We provide support and preparation; the case remains yours.
8. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
